Abbe and Van’s wedding – Return to the Jersey Shore 4/19/13

On April 19th, 2013 I had the pleasure of DJing the wedding of my good friend Van Kapeghian and his fiancée Abbe Meck.  Van has been a good friend of mine since high school and helped my enormously by designing my website for me  (check out his site for more information about his web design company!) so it was a real honor to be able to provide the music for him and Abbe at their wedding.  Another really special aspect of this event was that it took place on Long Beach Island, NJ at the Sea Shell Resort and Hotel.  The Sea Shell is right on the beach and suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Sandy, but the Hughes family has been working nonstop since then and the Sea Shell is back better than ever!

Long Beach Island has always held a special place in my heart having lived there one summer as well as visiting countless others, so I was very excited for this event.  It was a cold, windy and overcast day but right before Van and Abbe were ready to walk out on to the private beach area of the Sea Shell the clouds disappeared and the sun came out.  The sun made it just warm enough that everyone could enjoy the ceremony and made the wind seem more like just a breeze!

Like most weddings at the Jersey shore the cocktail hour featured a lot of great seafood appetizers and I have to say that the Sea Shell did an OUTSTANDING job!  From the raw bar to the crevice to shrimp everything was fantastic.

Abbe and Van entered the ballroom with their wedding party to the Clash’s “Train In Vain” and then danced their first dance to Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”.  After dinner we danced to a lot of 90’s classics like “Lady Marmalade”, “Bust a Move” and “the Humpty Dance” (the bride and her sisters loved this!).  Later we mixed in some newer songs like “Feel This Moment” by Pitbull and “Thrift Shop” by Mackelmore.

Abbe and Van are truly a lovely couple and I was so honored to be able to DJ their wedding.  Their family and friends were all out on the dance floor and giving me great requests all night.  The Hughes family and the rest of the Sea Shell staff did a great job and it was awesome to be part of the first event there since rebuilding from the storm.  If you are wondering about going back to the Jersey shore for an event I will tell you first hand that the Sea Shell in Long Beach Island is back and better than ever!  Support the shore!
